CWE’s Summer 2011 Picks 2
Continuing Chinese Work Ethic’s Summer 2011 Picks… Some more trends I’m thumbs-upping for this seasons…
Blue denim can be tricky. Dark, light, dark, light… A new wash can quickly look very outdated. This is why I’ve been a big proponent of grey denim for years. And this summer, grey jeans are the It denim trend. A lot of magazines are pushing for washed and worn but I like a nice structured gray or an antique fabric as much as the rock and roll dirty grey versions.
A common misconception, even in fashion blogging, is that a shoe with eyelets is an oxford shoe. Now let’s get things straight: oxfords have the eyelet on the inside of the shoe. Derby shoes are the ones with the eyelets on the outside. I personally own three pairs and I don’t think I’ll ever wear derby shoes ever again. There’s just something very sophisticated and interesting about the way the laces come out of the eyelets. Oxfords look great with chinos, jeans, a suit, even shorts.
How to wear it: pick a bold colour for a dose of eclecticism or stick with a creamy brown and a grey trouser for a classic look.
How to wear it: it can give a big jolt to a light grey summer suit. Can also be worn casually but make sure your shirt is purposely designed to be untucked. Pink can look fantastic with a tan. Keep it slim-fit and roll up the sleeves.
Blue is making a strong comeback as a classic outside of denim especially in strong majestic navies and deep hues. No longer is blue just associated with Wall Street types or old man blazers with gold buttons. Blue’s old money implications is bringing a little class to all kinds of pieces from trenches to tracksuits.
How to wear it: for real impact, try head to toe.
God, I can’t believe Spring 2012 collections are already here. Scary! Guess I should start brainstorming some insults. Anyway, wishing my loyal Chinese Work Ethic readers a beautiful and stylish summer!
